The History of EDIS

2008 – EDIS now: Today, the EDIS Hub™ network provides secure e-commerce communications for many New Zealand business, linking them to their customers and suppliers throughout the world. EDIS for Windows has become a powerful e-commerce development platform that provides all the integration, communications and translation requirements of our clients, read more about our hosted EDI solutions here.

As well as EDI, EDIS has expanded its products and services to be able offer a comprehensive suite of B2B solutions; including: web portals, product and pricing catalogues and data-synchronisation systems, together with developing connectors for most major ERP systems – read more about our solutions here.

EDIS provides complete B2B solutions for medium to large businesses and also solutions for smaller suppliers to rapidly and economically link their systems to retailers in the region, see a list of some of the companies linked to our network here.

2004 – EDIS Secures additional funding: That initiative prepared the company for a major capital injection by No.8 Ventures in 2004 which continues to provide strength and leadership to the company.

2001 – EDIS Secures major funding: EDIS underwent huge growth when a consortium of partners invested in EDIS in 2001.

1992 – EDIS releases first version of EDIS EDIS software: The first version of EDIS for Windows™ was launched in 1992, following on from the success of EDI lynx™ for MS-DOS which was installed in over 150 sites throughout New Zealand and Australia.

1989 – EDIS specializes in B2B EDI: By 1989, we had completed our first e-commerce projects. It was becoming clear that e-commerce was going to be a major focus for EDIS in the future. The EDIS hub™ network began exchanging purchase orders and invoices between the systems used by suppliers of Fletcher Aluminium in late 1989. The opportunities for us continued to expand as we developed our own e-commerce translators, communications and development software tools.

1985 – EDIS Founded: EDIS was originally formed in 1985, specializing in microcomputer and minicomputer applications. Starting with a small, borrowed computer we quickly secured our first large-scale contracts developing freight-forwarding applications for Honeywell and DEC minicomputers.

At the same time, the IBM PC market was emerging in New Zealand. That opened up huge opportunities for small clients to install their first computer systems. Since Barry and Jane (the original founders of EDIS) had always worked with communications applications, EDIS was able to develop its own manufacturing and networked point of sale systems that were marketed by local hardware resellers.
